New Zealand Jade Hei Tiki

$1,450.00

This is a medium large Hei Tiki is carved from a lovely soft green New Zealand jade with black markings and rare silvery lines through it.

Quite a hard jade and very time consuming (as they all tend to be) it was worth the extra effort to create this beautiful carving.

I have designed this piece following a more traditional style of carving Hei Tiki.

The hei tiki form has it’s meaning obscured by time but most commonly is seen as representing Tiki, the first human.

There are other possible meanings relating to fertility and also the unborn human form.

Description

This Hei Tiki is carved from a lovely soft green New Zealand jade with some of black spots and silvery lines scattered through it, quite a rare jade. Lovely colour and quite translucent! I am unsure what mineral is responsible for the silvery lines but it is very uncommon!

It is fully carved both sides. The eyes are inlaid paua shell.

This Hei Tiki is based on a traditional style of carving but with my own unique perspective. I have engraved my carvers logo on the back. I carved this piece last year (2025). (Finally getting around to updating my website!)

Self collected jade from many years ago this is a rare jade and quite a beautiful stone!

This pendant is 11.6cm high and 5.7cm at the widest point.

The cord is hand plaited nylon and has a jade toggle.
